The portfolio website is still being worked on to ensure all of my qualities are best displayed and highlighted. Please check back soon or scroll down for a sneak peak at the progress!

Hello, my name is Taylor Kothenbeutel, and I am currently a Senior at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. I will soon be graduating with a BA in Computer Science and a minor in Biology. In the future, I would like to have a career that focuses on software engineering. Over my time at Gustavus, I have worked in our technology services department, where I would assist users in person, on the phone, or over email, with any technology-related issue they are experiencing. I have also been excelling in my computer science classes to the point that I have been a computer science tutor for my peers for 2 years.
I have always had the burning desire to create something. Throughout the course of my life, I have taken up numerous hobbies that allowed me to make, such as clay sculpting and crocheting. It's no wonder that the activity of programming enthralled me. Ever since my first coding class all the way back in 8th grade, I knew that coding is something I wanted to pursue further in my life. I was so into programming that I would create small programs on Tynker using our school-issued iPads whenever I had free time. I am most proud of one of my Tykner projects, titled "Create your own splats!", which has since amassed over 57 thousand views and counting!
Throughout the years, I have worked on many projects (with more to come), so please look around to read more of what I've done. Thank you for visiting my website!
I love to code as a hobby, and so that has led to many projects throughout the year. Below are some of my best projects out of the bunch. My favorite aspect of working on the projects solo is how much more I get to learn. Building every aspect of a program has opened me to elements of development that I was not previously aware of, but required for the result I was striving for. An example of this is my Spotify webpage, where I initially lacked an understanding of API keys until I had to implement them to connect my design with Spotify. Without these projects, which I've either completed for a grade or for my personal satisfaction, I would not have known nearly as much about software development as I do now.
Have you ever wanted to see what new songs you have listened to in a span of a year? Well, I have, and that is why I started this project! What it does is take in your Spotify extended streaming history data and parse those files to find every unique song you've listened to (as long as they fit the settings). It then removes songs so that all that remains are songs that had been listened to for the first time in the given date range. Afterwards, you may download the results as a .json file, and even add all of these songs to a Spotify playlist automatically! The program houses numerous settings, so that you can fully utilize it to your liking and have it be adaptable to any unique use cases.
Developing software in a group really felt like I was a part of something great. It's insightful to brainstorm with others and gain different perspectives and methods to achieve the goal we are all striving for. Delegating tasks for every person allowed me to specialize in specific areas for each project, which then let me be very attentive in my code. Working on these collaborative projects has also built closer connections with my peers and has even led to more joint projects that are in the works.
